Journal Notes:

Qinan (also spelled Qinnan, in Chinese, 奇楠, qínán) is among the rarest and most revered forms of agarwood. When I first worked with Hainan Qinan, its beauty struck me—creamy, green, and subtly sweet. Everything I love about Chinese oud was present, though it leaned too smooth. It needed texture.

White Rose Otto, crisp and delicate, provided the natural counterbalance. Geranium’s leafy sharpness and ginger’s quiet spark added movement, giving the Qinan room to breathe. Anchored by a backbone of select Chinese and Southeast Asian ouds, the composition opened floral-woody and softened into a graceful drydown.

Yet it wasn’t complete until I introduced

Two Souls, a vintage blend of SQ Papua Oud and SQ Taifi Rose—around 50 years old. Its resinous smokiness and assertive richness transformed the balance, pouring depth into the Qinan Rose.

You’d be right to call this a Two Souls perfume, but I chose to keep the Chinese element in the name—to give Qinan and White Rose Otto the spotlight they deserve. Another Two Souls creation is still in the works, waiting for the right moment to reveal itself.

In honor of this dialogue between materials, Qinan Rose is available in two configurations: as a standalone—or as part of an exclusive bundle with Two Souls.

The bundle includes:

  1. Qinan Rose in the size of your choice
  2. Two Souls (2.5 g)
  3. A gift of Qinan Rose attar (approx. 0.5 g), limited to just over ~10 vials and reserved only for the bundle, on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the attar vials are gone, they will not return, though the bundle itself will remain available. Automatically added to your order if exists in stock.

Both configurations comes with personalization options with additional vintage Bulgarian or Turkish roses; and of course Two Souls:

  1. Turkish Rose Otto– velvety, spicy, and deep; lends warmth and sensual gravity.
  2. Bulgarian Rose Otto– fresh, dewy, and bright; adds a radiant, sparkling floral lift.
  3. Two Souls: Resiny oud and Taifi vintage goodness.

This blend had its seed start since my first Ambergris release. It only became ready now. As my late friend and comrade

Tarek Al Ghussein once told me: “Maher, you learn things when you’re ready to. Not when you want to.” This creation is a testament to that truth—born when it was ready, not a moment sooner.

Masterpiece.

Bright lemony taif, incense smoke, and a dry down of earthy sweetness. Stayed on the back of my hand for 4 days. A minimalist composition that is perfect as is.

Gorgeous Rose Oud

Qinan Rose is an ode to vintage rose, opening with a blast of vintage taifi rose, dewy, regal and rich, exemplified by supporting white rose. Ginger and Geranium extend the rose's naturally invigorating and zingy facets, exposing the melange of ouds underneath. Built on SQ Papuan Oud, the composition wears dense and royal with deep earthy green tones. Other ouds add to the signature Kinam brain buzz, followed by incense and honeyed nuances rising throughout the wear. A rose oud masterfully crafted, done right. I had the privilege of adding vintage Bulgarian rose absolute, making the rose even redder and denser, further pronouncing the honeyed notes and adding to the spectrum of roses.

Deserved 10 out of 10 perfume

I've been wearing Qinan Rose for the past 3 days and falling more in love with it every time. First of all, to say it's a rose-oud combo is not accurate, it's a rose perfume with oud playing a big supporting role to give it more depth.
it start off with a bit spicy effervescent rose. Then honeyed-like sweetness emerges and stays for a while. The oud starts showing slowly after, adding smokiness and depth to the composition. As the perfumes progresses the oud keeps showing more and more transitioning smoothly, but never taking center stage. In the final stage you're left with beautiful smoky honeyed rose. It lasts well over 12 hours with moderate projection.
Overall, its a well deserved 10 out of 10 perfume for me. Very high Quality material superbly blended. I'm glad I secured a 30 ml bottle for me to cherish.

A Blast from the past.

Objectively this is a 5 star but for me personally its a 4 because i tend to like the heavy and punchy rose oud combos.

Vintage rose oud that will probably be not replicated, to those who have it congratulations.

The smell, think smooth burnt roses on fire in this case the vintage ouds as support role giving the accords. Wearable, above average longevity and projection and pleasant to those around you, then again i am in hot weather and id imagine it will be even stronger to those with normal weather conditions

The Most Beautiful Rose + Oud Blend I’ve Ever Smelled

I’m still new to perfumes, so I’m learning how to put words to what I smell. With Qinan Rose, I had to spray it on paper just to slow it down - almost like hitting pause on a bullet-camera shot - so I could notice the layers. The first impression is a bright, cheerful rose, with just a faint hint of geranium and a quiet spark of ginger. It feels very clear and open at the start, but right away I sensed something more going on underneath.

As it develops, the ouds begin to rise. The rare Hainan Qinan comes through as creamy, green, and lightly sweet. What surprised me is that it doesn’t drag the rose down into heaviness; instead, it seems to hold the rose up, wrapping it in something deeper and resinous. The other ouds… Papua, Trat, Yunnan, Prachin… add different textures, so the scent feels layered rather than simple. I do have approximately 40 woods in my collection so I have a lot of experience and can tell you that it's very hard to pin down a specific note out of the woods and I really love that it's a Shapeshifter. .

Other reviewers describe it as rose flickering like light on water, or like incense during a Kodo ceremony. I can’t personally compare it to those exact experiences, but I get what they mean: the rose stays bright for a long time, while the ouds slowly shift the mood into something calmer and more reflective. The materials really do smell high quality… the White Rose Otto is crisp, the Taifi rich, and the ouds add depth without turning heavy.
For me, Qinan Rose isn’t just a “rose scent” or just an “oud scent. ” It feels like both at once…. uplifting but also grounding. It lasts a long time and takes you on a bit of a journey. Even as a beginner, I can tell this is special: more than just a perfume, it feels like something you experience over time rather than just wear.

Best of all, it got a huge smile from my wife. I think I may get her a bottle as a gift if one is still available… both to show my love for her, as well as - to a degree - so I can protect my own stash. :). Thank you Maher!

As a bonus, the packaging is top notch. . . really Apple level unboxing. Gorgeous printing, very luxurious interior and a perfect snug fit. This box will not get thrown away!

A Masterpiece

The opening of Qinan Rose greets you with a delicate yet commanding breeze of Taifi rose, crisp, airy. Almost immediately, the star of the composition, the rare qinan, unfurls with a depth that is at once grounding and luminous. Its resinous warmth elevates the floral into something spiritual, contemplative, and rare. The scent wears with remarkable longevity. It recalls childhood Ramadan iftars where the air is heavy with incense and anticipation, or the tranquil presence of an elder reciting Qur’an: dignified, serene, yet luminous with hidden emotion.

This is not just a rose fragrance; it is addictive, a meditation in scent, a Kinami masterpiece. I anticipate it will be a new instant cult favorite.

Beautiful rose incense

What can i say that wasn’t already said?
If you’re a fan of Kodo sessions then this is for you.
Incense, rose and a beautiful base as always. To my nose the opening is almost like smelling incense while being surrounded by roses, the white rose otto is so beautiful and crisp, the superior quality of the otto used is very clear. As for the base it’s just magnificent the Taifi is there and the papaun oud also, i can pick them up individually and also as a single note at the same time! I guess thats the magic of the two souls melange that was used here.

Rose flickering on deep oud waters

Qinan Rose is an oud-rose. But saying that is like saying a great jazz performance is just the tune as written in a few lines in the book of standards. The Elkhaldi blend that Qinan Rose reminds me most of is Ghazali HIndi, but they are completely different. That's jazz for you.

To me, Ghazali Hindi is a single, luminous rose nestled in a cave of deep, rich Hindi oud. Light emanates from the rose, illuminating the oud. The oud in turn reflects different facets of the rose that we might not have appreciated otherwise. There's no cave with Qinan Rose.

This is a luminous rose that calls to mind the play of light on water. The Taifi rose is lifted, almost fizzy or bubbly. By that I don't mean frivolous at all. It dances, like light on water. As the perfume wears, that water becomes more and more the ouds, and more still. Whereas the blend started with luminous flickering, it relaxes into calm, meditative waves. The rose stays around, but as a compliment and support for the ouds. The ouds themselves are almost diaphanous. I'm no expert on Chinese oud, and haven't often enjoyed it. But there's no bitter medicinal here.

The blend is cohesive and resinous without being heavy. That's a common theme of this blend, richness and complexity without heaviness. The materials used here mean that the blend is expensive. But Maher has created something special that's unique in his work thus far.
