Very excited!
Maher outdid himself once again, just masterclass in perfumery here. To my surprise this is more so a gourmand perfume then musky-cola-tobacco what I was expecting. It opens with a faint cola note but the body of this perfume consists of nutty-chocolatey-coffee musk, underlying in a bed of tobacco. Also very easy to wear and to reach for.
Pink tones, Green Tones, Purple Tones all dancing around in the air, it’s really a joy to experience. Slight sweetness that transforms into a Smokey/Oudy vibe that is simply regal. It feels thick on skin and stays around for hours making your day that much better. SOMS also made me appreciate Qinan Rose more. Just like someone above this review said, “this is the end all be all” when it comes to Rose Ouds. Job well done Maher!!
A slight sweet scent with a predominance of the rose accompained by a soft touch of jasmine. A light green shade of tea. Later i mainly perceive the Sylhet oud, wich i find consistent with the profile of the fragrance. In the late drydown, a soft and slightly oud base. Good job
I shared my first impression the other day and now it’s time for a full judgment. The opening is distinctly purple, quite piercing in a way with fruity blackcurrant, velvety violet, and lush florals. Once the florals settle, the velvety profile transitions into a subtle powderyness, nicely composed with oud in the background. It’s not overpowering, but just enough. The overall drydown nuance is woody, smoky, breezy, slightly aquatic, calming and inviting.
How does it compare to Purple Luban? I personally think for VI, the level of purple lushness is more elevated, with less smokiness and soapy florals than PL. The oud, of course, plays a more coherent role too and obviously I prefer VI than PL. I’m happy to have secured this before it sold out.
p/s: I’ve received some compliments

Purple Luban ( Review2026Giveaway )
The opening presents a distinctly “purple” accord, supported by soft green nuances and a particularly refined expression of Luban. While the composition initially feels multifaceted, the structure is well-balanced, allowing each element to integrate smoothly. The purple profile (built around fig, blackcurrant, orris, violet, and lavender) leans towards a lighter, more diffusive interpretation rather than a dense or resinous one. It creates a soft, floral, fruity atmosphere with a slightly powdery texture from the orris.
The green facets, primarily driven by the violet, are handled with restraint. They don’t project aggressively but instead sit close to the skin, adding tonal contrast and complexity without disrupting the overall harmony.
The Luban stands out for its clarity and refinement. It is assertive yet controlled, with a subtle green edge and a noticeable citrus brightness. Importantly, it avoids the harsher, phenolic or musty characteristics that can sometimes dominate Luban forward compositions.
Ambergris plays a key structural role, lifting the composition and introducing a sense of airiness and diffusion, almost giving a lightly sparkling effect.
The oud functions more as a compositional anchor than a dominant note, providing cohesion and depth, and gradually softening into a smooth, slightly creamy base as the fragrance develops.
It starts off with a beautiful sensual bouquet of florals - I mainly detect Jasmine (Juhi in Hindi) but done in a very artistic, smooth and serene way; Not at all sharp or indolic.
In about 2-3 minutes, beautiful lush roses🌹 start peaking their head through the silky-smooth bed of florals.
With all of this, there is a presence of a calming aroma of black warm ‘chai’ / tea ☕️ framing this beautiful composition. After about 10-15 minutes, the roses start to bloom in all their glory amongst the jasmines and other florals.
The tea note is prominent and helps keep the florals at bay without letting the composition get overly sharp or sweet. At the heart and base, I sense a low hum of oud that’s very tame and composed.
After about 30-40 mins, the florals 💐 are no longer in the forefront but rather share an equal footing on stage. The composition now starts to get a little sweet probably from the tea being more present. At this point the oud 🪵 is also more noticeable but still very much in the background.
At about the 2 hour mark, the oud 🪵 is quite noticeable along with the tea, and the florals are still there but not as dominant.
One of the best Ghaliyah Style Parfums I ever smelled honestly… beautiful vintage oud with 0 notes off paired with fresh & jammy/ fresh Roses and beautiful animalics (and a few other notes); i even get slight notes of cherries. Overall beautfully blended and you feel like a Sultan wearinh it. Oh, and the concentration is really high, so it can be enjoyed a very long time :)
